Eminem’s Kamikaze (Interscope/Universal) enters a second week atop Australia’s albums chart while homegrown singer and songwriter Dean Lewis settles-in at the summit of the national singles survey for a fifth successive week, with “Be Alright” (Island/Universal).
Of Em’s nine No. 1 album in these parts, three others have gone on to clock a pair of weeks at the top: Curtain Call: The Hits (from December 2005), Relapse (May 2009) and The Marshall Mathers LP2 (November 2013). Eminem’s 2010 best-seller Recovery logged the longest stretch at No. 1, with nine weeks, according to ARIA.
The Detroit rapper is all that stands in the way of Byron Bay, Australia garage rock trio Skegss and this week’s chart title. Skegss, which formed in the east coast beachside town in 2013 and have four EPs to their name, arrive at No. 2 with their debut album My Own Mess (Warner).
After visiting Australia in late 2017 for his first tour in nearly a quarter century, Paul McCartney’s new solo set Egypt Station (Capitol/EMI) opens its account at No. 4 on the ARIA Albums Chart. It’s the first time the Beatles great has impacted the top ten since 1997, when Flaming Pie reached No. 9. Egypt Station, McCartney’s 18th solo album, gave the Hall of Famer his first No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart for more than 36 years.
In the wake of his untimely death last Friday (Sept. 7) at the age of 26, Mac Miller’s Swimming (Warner) returns to the albums tally at No. 7, eclipsing its previous peak of No. 21. The posthumous chart feat is Miller’s first top ten in Australia, and it eclipses the No. 13 best of The Divine Feminine, from 2016.
On the ARIA Singles Chart, Dean Lewis’s double-platinum certified (140,000 combined units) “Be Alright” holds off Benny Blanco’s “Eastside” (Interscope/Universal) for another chart crown while Calvin Harris and Sam Smith’s summery EDM tune “Promises” (Columbia/Sony) climbs 12-4, a new peak in its fourth week. Its Harris’ 14th top 10 single, and Smith’s fourth, ARIA notes.
The highest debut on the current chart frame belongs to Lil Pump and Kanye West’s “I Love It” (Warner/Universal), new at No. 7. The collab and its Spike Jonze-helmed video got its premiere at the inaugural Pornhub Awards, for which Kanye provided creative direction.
