Delta Passenger Dies on Flight From Detroit to Shanghai.
A Delta Air Lines flight from Detroit to Shanghai had to return to the airport a few hours after take off due to an unresponsive passenger on board, a Detroit Metropolitan Airport official said Tuesday.
Spokeswoman Lisa Gass said the Wayne County Airport Authority’s Public Safety team responded to a medical emergency on the flight after it returned to the airport just before 11 p.m. Monday.
The passenger was determined to have died on board. The Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office took possession of the body, Gass said.
Delta spokeswoman Lisa Hellerstedt said the airline wasn’t releasing additional details or revealing the nature of the emergency. She did say the situation involved only the one passenger.
According to the Associated Press, the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office had identified the passenger as Yury Rubel and said he died of hypertensive cardiovascular disease. The death was ruled a natural death, The AP reported. An age and hometown of the passenger weren’t immediately available.
