Elon Musk today teased a new product from Tesla next week and SolarCity the following week.

The company boss tweeted that an “unexpected” product would be launched by the company in just a week’s time – on October 17.

The announcement means that the company will be launching two new products this month. The new, unknown, product will be followed by a solar roof and battery, which is being created by Tesla and one of Musk’s other companies, SolarCity.

“Tesla product unveiling on the 17th (unexpected by most), followed by Tesla/SolarCity on the 28th,” he said in the tweet. There haven’t been any clues as to what may be launched on the October 17 event, but it could be the second part of Tesla’s Model 3 launch.

In April the firm revealed its most “affordable” electric car to date. The Model 3, which has had more than 400,000 preorders, is promised to be a high-quality electric vehicle with a range of 215 miles. It will be able to reach 60mph in six seconds and support Tesla’s Supercharger network.

After the car was launched in April Musk said there would be a “big” event for the second part of the car’s launch later in 2016. At the Code Conference in June Musk cryptically said the second event for the car would unveil “the obvious thing”.

On October 28 Tesla and SolarCity are set to reveal a solar roof and an integrated “Powerwall 2.0 battery and Tesla charger”. In September, the billionaire said the new energy efficient rooftop would be publicly seen for the first time in the San Fransisco Bay area on October 28.

The roof – which is said to be made entirely out of solar cells – will also look to integrate products from Musk’s electric car company. It will come with an “integrated” home battery (Powerwall 2.0) and also a Tesla charger.

Buyers will get to customise the design in order to fit with their specific housing design. The new roof is part of Musk’s master plan that focuses on sustainable energy.
